Hi. I'm glad you're here.

Here’s some information about me that can help you decide if I’m a good fit for you. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor as well as a Registered Dietitian. I worked as a dietitian first but knew that I was destined to get more education. Now with both counseling and nutrition degrees my practice is solely focused on helping people with many different types eating disorders, food addictions, and body image issues.

I was always told growing up that I was “too sensitive”. I thought this was a flaw and I needed more of a backbone. I’ve come to accept and embrace this because this is my gift that I give to you. My sensitivity means I probably know exactly how you feel. I’ve dealt with crippling anxiety and depression in the past, so when you describe these feelings to me, there’s a good chance I know what you’re going through. And if you try to use food or change your body to cope with these uncomfortable feelings, then I’ve definitely been in your shoes.

In 2005, I recovered from my own eating disorder.  Clients report that my history of struggle and recovery helps them feel more fully understood, and gives them hope that a life without an eating disorder is possible for them, and it is possible for you too!

I have worked for 4 years combining counseling and nutrition and find it to be the best marriage for working with people with eating disorders. Prior to this I worked as a dietitian for 10 years and counseled people with many different health issues: weight loss, diabetes, sport nutrition, and intuitive eating so I will also incorporate this knowledge into our sessions.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, cycling or hiking the beautiful mountains of Colorado, and curling up with a good book.

Life is hard and at some point, we all need help. We need others to hold hope for us and I can be that person for you. It is important that you feel comfortable working with the therapist you choose. For this reason I offer a free initial consultation. Having a comfortable and trusting relationship is one of the most important aspects to therapy as we work together.

You may have noticed the lotus flower in my logo. The lotus flower is a beautiful blossom that comes from a dirty, murky, swamp. Similarly, in life, we all have challenging times or conditions. Yet, we all have the potential to blossom into a beautiful person. Counseling can provide you the support you need to help you so that you can experience peace and joy in your life.

Melissa Preston Counseling was founded on the premise that everyone deserves to live a valued, fulfilling life. Often we are our own worst enemies when it comes to achieving our goals in life. Together, we will work to help you the overcome the obstacles standing in your way of living a meaningful life. I take a gentle, yet direct approach in pointing out what is keeping you “stuck” in your patterns of thinking and the behaviors that are not working, helping you work towards living the life you want!

You don't have to suffer any longer. My treatment methods have helped countless people just like you recover from their eating disorder and unhealthy behaviors.

I offer a free 30 minute consultation. You can call me at 303-489-9269 or send me a message to set up your first appointment.
